The sun continues to shine on this beauty trend: Butter yellow is one of the most requested manicure shades of the summer. First seen on Selena Gomez (painted by her trend-starting manicurist Tom Bachik), the butter nails trend began as a solid, cream shaded painted evenly across the nail. However, trends move forward, which means we now have a new version of the style: a combined French manicure with the trendy butter shade.
Cleverly known as the butter Frenchie, this manicure isn’t complicated nor does it require anything new or inventive. Simply, imagine if a French manicure had a baby with butter nails (and perhaps, glazed donut nails, too).
The first steps are the same as for other manicures: file to your nail shape of choice. We’ve seen oval or round most popular for the trend, though any will do. After applying a base coat that’s a near-nude, you (or your manicurist) will perfect the smile line in a shade of happy yellow, using either a thin brush or French manicure stickers (a genius invention for the at-home nail girls). For a more subtle non-mani mani look, paint another layer of the nude base shade directly atop the yellow. Of course, a top coat is always the final step to ensure the manicure will last.
Other variations of butter nails
For those who are feeling creative, look to the baby french, the maximalist maxi-french nails, or the glazed donut nails to get even more experimental with the trend.
